So, who the heck am I?
Well, my name is Mike Debyah. I’m a Certified Public Accountant and a QuickBooks ProAdvisor with over 15 years of experience working with small businesses of all shapes and sizes. But I’m more than just that. I’m also a husband and a father to two great kids. I’m a computer nerd and I enjoy comic books, superheroes, pro wrestling and pop-culture conventions. I’m not a typical, old school boring accountant, and I think that’s what makes me unique.
I’m combining my accounting skills with my love of the online world to create a resource for the people who own and/or work in small businesses. My entire career has been focused on working with smaller businesses, everything from one man shops up to 10 or 20 employees. I used to do work one-on-one (and still do a little bit) but commuting around the Boston area is just a huge waste of time so I thought that there had to be a better way. By using the internet I’m able to provide helpful information to (potentially) the whole world without leaving my house!
The biggest problem I see with small businesses is poor bookkeeping. Many times someone gets placed in the position of bookkeeper who really isn’t qualified and they just do the best they can. The business owner doesn’t get any useful information to help grow and improve the business and it’s a huge mess at year-end. Or even worse, if they need financial statements in the middle of the year for the bank or something like that.
It’s my mission to teach accounting, bookkeeping and especially QuickBooks to these small business owners, bookkeepers and even CPAs and tax preparers (hey, nobody knows everything – I know many great tax preparers who know nothing about QuickBooks). I want to help them do a better job of their bookkeeping and use the improved information reporting to grow their businesses and become more profitable. I want to make the year-end task of gathering information for the tax return easier for everyone. I plan to do this through short informational training videos, audio recordings and written posts.
I grew up on a dairy farm in Northern New York. My whole family worked hard and it’s there that I learned how important smaller businesses are to each community. That’s why I now focus exclusively on small business and have no interest in bigger corporate-type clients.
I want to use this site to provide good, useful information and grow a community. I thank you for taking the time to stop by and I hope that what I’m doing here can help you.
